Early yesterday morning (or late yesterday evening, depending on your time zone), Google made the announcement that countless businesses have been waiting for since the initial launch of Google+; Google+ Pages.
Google+ Pages is the next logical step for the social platform and will afford business the chance to represent their brand in an official capacity and to interact with Google+’s highly engaged user base.
Google had this to say on their official blog:
Google+ has always been a place for real-life sharing, and Google+ Pages is no exception. After all: behind every page (or storefront, or four-door sedan) is a passionate group of individuals, and we think you should able to connect with them too.
At a cursory glance, brand pages seem to have the same rights as any other user page on Google+, which means a lot of exciting things for brands looking for a new way to connect with their fans.
For example, think of what can be achieved with Google Hangouts. Think of a beauty brand holding a live Q&A with a stylist, or an entertainment blog running a competition to hang out with your favourite author. It could also work as another platform for getting in touch – instead of calling your local deli to see if they do custom lunch orders, you can hang out on Google+ and they can show exactly what they have available!
In addition, circles continue to feature, even for brand pages. This means that a brand can separate its customers into separate circles for specifically targeted communications. Think of having a Google brand page from which you can engage with your staff, customers, stakeholders and partners at any time, through your Google circles.
