It has just been announced that Google has bought German deal site DailyDeal.de.
For those who don’t know, DailyDeal.de is like UK voucher site Groupon and offers deals to those in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The site was founded in2009 by brothers Fabian and Ferry Heilmann in Berlin, who will continue to work for the site even after the Google acquisition.
The pair put a statement on their website this morning, detailing their excitement at being placed under the wing of the internet giant: “What began as a two-person start up less than two years ago has transformed into a trusted platform to connect businesses with consumers. By combining our expertise with the Offers team at Google, we hope to expand our efforts to provide even greater deals to consumers.”
It will be interesting to see what Google has in store for the European deal site. Will Google take the site into new markets? Only time will tell.
