Apple Inc. was established on the 1st of April 1976 in California. For the first thirty years of its existence it was called Apple Computer but the ‘computer’ was removed in 2007 when the company began to expand its range of products, away from traditional computing items.
Here are a selection of Apple products throughout the ages for you to admire and/or snigger at.
Apple I, 1976

This was the first and original Apple computer which was launched in 1976. It was personally hand-made by Stephan Wozniak, founder of Apple (along with Steve Jobs). Both Stephan Wozniak and Steve Jobs had to sell their most prized possessions (a VW van and a HP-65 calculator) in order to fund the creation of the first Apple computer.
Macintosh, 1984

This was the first ‘Mac’ and was introduced by Steve Jobs in 1984. It had a graphical user interface (allowing users to interact using images rather than only being able to interact using text commands) and was the first commercially successful personal computer to have a functioning mouse. This Mac had no hard drive, only RAM and was extremely overpriced for that period in time (over 2000 dollars per unit).
Macintosh Portable, 1989

This was Apple’s first attempt at a battery powered portable computer, released in 1989. The mouse function was a trackball mechanism and was met by huge amounts of excitement from critics. Unfortunately this did not translate into sales and at 7.2kg and 10cms thick it was hardly comfortably portable!
iMac, 1998

This was the first model of the iMac line of personal computers and was another ‘all-in-one’ computer where the monitor and system unit was enclosed in the same machine. It was released in a variety of colours with matching coloured mouses and keyboards. It was the first Apple computer to come with a lower price and this made a huge difference. This model made a huge impact on the market share for Apple. This also started the ‘i’ product revolution, a legend computer in its own right!
iPod, 2001

The iPod is where Apple started stepping away from personalised computers a little. The first of a long line of iPod’s was released in 2001. Love it or hate it, the iPod has changed the way we understand content and it has changed the way we look at gadgets. For the past 5 years it has set a standard for personal music players and for all personalised electronic gadgets for that matter.
I hope you have enjoyed this little history lesson, obviously there are hundreds more Apple products and you can find out more in this article but the above are a few of my favourites! Long live the juicy red or green crunch fruit that is Apple!
