There is nothing worse. Your room is dark, your bed nice and cosy and you’re in a deep sleep, then suddenly ‘MEEP MEEP MEEP MEEP MEEP’. Surely it’s only 4am? My alarm clock must be broken! It’s 7am… but I just got into bed?!
Lets face it we all have trouble getting up in the morning. I don’t consider myself a morning person but provided I catch enough Z’s, I can just about function once the coffee machine is switched on and I’ve had a shower. My partner, on the other hand, is a nightmare. His job doesn’t really involve getting up early in the morning very often and when he does, he looks at his alarm clock as through it’s informing him of a zombie uprising. Luckily, for the heavy sleeper in your life (or indeed if that person is you), there is a solution. There are so many ridiculously annoying alarm clocks on the market to make sure you get up on time, here are just some of them.
The Sonic Grenade Alarm
This one is great if you have kids or a sleepy partner who finds it hard to get up in the morning. You simply pull the pin out, throw it into the bedroom and cover your ears. It will let out a high pitched squeal that will get anyone out of bed. Once they are up however, the alarm will continue to go off until the pin is replaced, perfect for getting your favourite sleepyhead to the breakfast table!
The Puzzle Alarm
The Puzzle Alarm works in a number of ways, whilst letting out the usual unbearable bleeping sound, it will not allow you to snooze or switch it off until you have completed the puzzle. I’m a bit sceptical about this one, as matching up the shapes could become a task easily completed when semi- conscious (with practise). The jury is out!
SnuzNluz
This one is a stroke of absolute genius. You program the alarm to your bank details and every time you hit snooze it donates an agreed amount (for example you can set it to 50p, £1 or even £10 if you’re feeling flush) to the organisation of your choice. Great for your chosen charity, BAD for your bank balance if you’re a serial snoozer!
The Runaway Alarm
This little guy actually forces you to get out of bed to catch him! All you need to do is set the alarm, and when it goes off it will scuttle around the floor until you catch it and switch it off. Lets see you hit snooze five times if you have to do that!
The Philips Wake Up Light
This gadget is a must have for those who find themselves jumping out of their skin when the alarm clock goes off. The Wake Up Light alarm was first created in order to combat seasonal affective disorder as it gradually introduces light into your bedroom as you wake up naturally. This sunrise effect is supposed to encourage your body to reduce the production of melatonin (the sleep hormone) and increase cortisol levels (these help you get up and go). It features many sounds including tweeting birds and gentle ocean waves but personally, I think it would take more than a bright light to get my out of my pit. I know this from falling asleep with all the lights on several times as a student. Either way it’s a great product and it’s got excellent reviews. Definitely worth a try if you have trouble getting out of bed!
